Browser Requirements

Logging in to HillSearch

I forgot my password.

Use the password recovery feature on the Sign In page: http://www.hillsearch.org/members/login.cfm. Enter your email address and your password will be sent to you.

My username is invalid or incorrect.

Be sure to type in all lowercase letters with no spaces. You can verify that your username and password are current by contacting the Hill Library at (877) 700-4455 or (651) 265-5500.

If the problem persists, try the SSL (Secure Socket Layer) login at https://www.hillsearch.org. Some network and firewall security settings require this method of entry.

I need to change my password.

To change your password, log in to HillSearch, and then visit this link: http://www.hillsearch.org/members/password_change.cfm. The CustomSearch page also lists the password change link.

I can’t see the Sign In page.

Your Web browser may not meet our minimum system requirements. You must use at least Internet Explorer 4.0 or Netscape 4.0 to use the HillSearch Web site.

OneSearch error

I received an error after clicking “Next Set” or “View” in OneSearch.

This issue is caused by a security setting for cookies in Internet Explorer. Follow these instructions in order to view OneSearch results in IE:
Go to the Tools drop-down menu.
Select Internet Options.
Click on the Privacy tab, then the Advanced button.
On this window check "Override automatic cookie handling" and make sure to select "Third Party Cookies" -- "Accept".
Close all instances of Internet Explorer.
The next time you search in OneSearch, you will be able to view “Next Set” as well as “View” the full record. NOTE: this will allow cross domain cookies to be read and poses a small security risk.

When I access Dun & Bradstreet, my computer tries to download gate.exe.

D&B runs a program called gate.exe on its site. Download manager programs such as SmartDownload or RealDownload may automatically activate and attempt to download the file when they see the “gate.exe” program trying to run.

If you have the RealOne media player installed, RealDownload may have installed along with it. If you have a Netscape browser, SmartDownload may have installed along with it. Here are possible solutions for both programs:

SmartDownload
Go to the Start menu.
Select Programs.
Select SmartDownload.
Select Disable.

RealDownload
Close the browser.
Click on the Start Menu.
Select Programs.
Select Real under Programs.
Click on RealDownload.
When the program launches, click on the Tools menu.
Select Options.
In the Options dialog box, click on the Configuration tab.
There should be a checkbox in the middle of the box for the option "Enable Browser Integration." Uncheck that box. Click OK.
Close RealDownload

Referring URL and Authentication

What is a referring URL?

When you click on a link to visit a Web page, your Web browser sends information about your current page (referring URL) to the server for the new Web page. This happens so the new Web page server can keep track of the last Web page you viewed (referring URL) and grant entry to the new Web page (authentication).

Many of our database providers use this method of authentication so you do not have to enter log in credentials at the point of entry. For example, when you click on the HillSearch “Open Database” link for Dun & Bradstreet, your browser tells Dun & Bradstreet’s Web server that you are currently viewing a page at hillsearch.org (referring URL) and logs you in automatically (authentication).

If you block referrer information, the server for the requested Web page cannot verify the referring URL, or the page you last visited. Some firewalls automatically block this information.
